Practice Description

Lisa represents public school employees in personnel matters at administrative levels, drawing upon her unique legal experience, having first represented school district employees in Texas and then school districts and colleges in California. In El Paso, Lisa also advises small businesses to help instill sound employment law practices and works with management in handling employee-related challenges.

In the latter part of the 1990s and then again from late 2005 to the present, Lisa has worked at Brim Arnett representing public school employees, from superintendents to teachers to custodians, in a variety of matters related to their employment. From 1999-2005, Lisa represented school districts and community colleges primarily in the greater San Francisco bay area. She represented clients in federal and state litigation, including two class action lawsuits. In California, Lisa advised her clients regarding special education issues, construction issues, contract and business matters, district policy formation, and labor and employment matters, including contract negotiations. She is a CTA-certified negotiations trainer for Interest-Based Bargaining. Lisa has provided many inservices and training sessions for different categories of employees and supervisors regarding sexual harassment, discrimination, and employee discipline. She has also published articles in the California Employment Law Reporter, the Hispanic Law Journal and The Southwest Woman magazine.
